Doctor Who

The Stolen Earth
Okay, where do I start with this…the pros or the cons?
Heads, I’ll list the pros first. Tails, the cons.

Well, there it is, then.
Caution: Possible spoilers after the jump. There. I’ve done my job.
If you jump and haven’t seen the episode yet, don’t blame me.
Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

A wee bit anti-climatic. A smidge desperate. Far too many characters with far too little to do. Three Doctors, two of them half human and half Time Lord…please. That ugly, cheap-looking warpstar necklace Sarah! Jane! just happened to have with her. No squealing. The inexcusable scarcity of any close-up shots of someone’s black leather boots. The lack of any really good lines that 1) could be understood and 2) hijacked. The return to Bad Wolf Bay and the drama therein. That outfit the second Doctor wore. Brown and blue? OMFG. Not enough K-9. Not enough Sarah! Jane!. Okay, there’s never enough of either of them.
Despite those cons, there were a few pros, too.
Visually spectacular, total SFX eye candy. The scene where Donna pushed Sarah! Jane! away from Captain Jack so she could hug him. The three good lines that 1) could be understood and 2) hijacked. The Daleks. The tears I shed, natch. Someone’s black leather boots, although for the most part they weren’t clearly visible. The second Doctor sounding a lot like Donna. Oi, space boy! Oi, Earth girl! Donna, in general. Yes, I know. K-9 being included and kicking ass. Sarah! Jane!’s departure not being as sad as in School Reunion. K-9. Sarah! Jane!
C’mon, Luke, shake a leg! (The Doctor)
This is for the end of days. (Sarah Jane)
K-9, out you come! Affirmative, Mistress. (Sarah Jane and K-9)
From a program just over an hour, these were the only three lines I grabbed because they were at least understandable. I would have loved adding the whole Donna/Doctor exchange, but blimey! I could barely understand it.

This is one of my favorite shots from the entire episode.
Don’t they look like they’re having far too much fun?

It still sounds like you liked the episode about a million times more than I did. :) I can’t even say I enjoyed the K-9 appearance! I mean, it was basically a throwaway cameo where all he did was upload some numbers… which was completely unnecessary, since, despite the Doctor’s contention that giving Mr. Smith remote access would “take a while,” all he would have had to do to speed up the process was digitally transmit the necessary information to Mr. Smith himself. And I was about to say that maybe Mr. Smith and the TARDIS have such radically different technology that transferring those numbers would initially have been problematic, but that suggestion is negated by the fact that the machines were able to transmit the realtime video chat data without a hitch.
Anyway, they could at least have had K-9 blow up a Dalek (presumably one of the ones bearing down on Sarah Jane in the beginning, since having her randomly saved made her look totally weak) or something. :|
Yeah, it does sound like that, doesn’t it? =)Good point about K-9, Mr. Smith, and the TARDIS, but that an example of what I meant about too many people with too little to do, sort of. It’s almost as if RTD felt it necessary to bring *everyone* back for this finale, even if it was just for a minute, which smacks of the desperation I mentioned.
Mickey and Jackie could have totally not even been involved for all they did after saving S!J!S!. Honestly, that was really poor and I hated it because once they got S!J!S! out of her wind-up car, she took total control of the situation. Left to her own devices, she could have gotten the same results because she’s way cooler and way more capable than the other two. =)
Even so, I thought it was great to see K-9 and I loved the way S!J!S! called him out of his hole in the wall. She sounded so cute. ;-)
