The Daemons

I’m trying very, very hard not to dislike Jo Grant as the Doctor’s companion. I swear to God I am, at least inasmuch as saying anything about it outloud, because it seems I always end up changing my mind at some point. Look at Leela. Couldn’t stand her for the longest time. Was never too crazy about Romana II, either. Oh, and let’s not forget about the Third Doctor.

In fact, there was a time when I wasn’t even that crazy mad about S!J!S!, but that was a lifetime ago now, and it really had more to do with the dress she wore than anything. That sounds silly, but I was really annoyed because it made her look so helpless and since it was early on in my Who-viewing, I projected that onto the actual character. But when she told the Doctor she knew what she was doing as he handed her a shotgun and then locked and loaded it as he walked away from her, it was all over. I didn’t even mind the dress after that.
