…and so does waking up super early because you’re worried about how the hell you’re going to pay your bills on time *and* put money away for retirement.
That’s my story today; I woke up much earlier than normal and went through my morning ablutions in record time and have been in front of the computer ever since, transferring money from one account to another to cover my bills and then actually writing the checks (I know, it’s terribly old skool to actually write checks these days, but it’s still my preferred method of payment) and slipping them into their envelopes.
Well, to be more accurate, I’ve only spent about 45 minutes doing all that; the other time hasĀ been spent upgrading to WordPress 2.7 (and being rather irritated that to find the dashboard, I had to log out and log back in because if it’s accessible from other parts of the interface, I’ll be goddamned if I can find the link), IMing with a friend in Virginia, and general tweeting.
So, at the end of the day, it boils down to this: all my bills are paid and I really need to put myself on a very, very strict budget starting in 2009. I am far too old to see the total in all my bank accounts total less than $3k. At least I have my 401(k), for whatever that’s worth now and some stock.
But the 401(k) and the stock doesn’t help the hand to mouth situation.
