From a recent email to my best friend:
When I read about the woman wanting to know if you could get her website to pop up, once I got my mind out of the gutter, I thought of jack-in-the-boxes. I never liked those because although I knew they would eventually pop up without warning – which maybe should have been warning enough, to be honest – they still always scared me. Who had the bright idea to combine the menacing element of surprise with a clown? Are clowns NOT menacing enough by themselves? Christ.
