A thousand other things to do
Or at least a handful of other things, if a thousand seems like it’s a bit much. But tomorrow’s a holiday, so I’m definitely flying in the face of Ben Franklin’s advice about not putting off until tomorrow what you can do today or something like that.
A list of things I should be doing:
More laundry
More cleaning
Paying bills
Answering email
Burning CDs
Screen capping “Journey’s End” for SJSFF4 1/2 -b*
Grocery shopping
Reading or writing
Sleeping
And a list of things I’d like to be doing:
Editing “Inferno” mp3s
Tweaking the code on strange cousin susan
Answering email
Burning CDs
Screen capping “Journey’s End” for SJSFF4 1/2 -b*
Creating personalized ring tones for my phone
Furthering my legit Who collection
Copying down those Epictetus quotes I read to BG1 last week
Reading or writing
Sleeping
But instead, I’m thinking about a short conversation Flirty M and I had on Friday about the IT group at work**. “There seem to be some good reasons why they’re probably still single and maybe even still living at home,” I pointed out to him as we discussed an email I’d receieved and subsequently forwarded to him, since he had to address it. “There’s no good reason why *I’m* still single,” I added, “since my social skills seem to put me in good stead with polite company (most of the time).”
“No, you’re right, Mickey Glitter,” Flirty M replied. “There’s no reason why you should still be single. We’ll work on that after Memorial Day, okay?”
What’s different about this time we’ve talked about it is this: I didn’t throw up a million and one roadblocks as we talked about it. In fact, I think I may have even agreed with him. We’ve discussed this before, he and I; he’s determined to make me unsingle somehow and has approached it by asking me if there are any boys I find appealing at the fracktory, and when he gets nowhere with that question, launches into stating that I should date women.
Oh, Flirty M. If you only knew. I’m 99.9% sure he does. It’s kind of hard not to be so sure, once the following exchange has taken place:
I think all women are at least a little bisexual. -Flirty M
I’ve never met a woman who isn’t. -Me
Wha…wait, so what are you saying? That you’re bi? -Flirty M
(grinning brilliantly, but coyly at the same time [if that's possible]) -Me
Yeah, so this development dovetails nicely with feeling I’m more on the verge of letting me mum in on The Big Secret once and for all, though I suspect she has her own suspicions about it. Naturally, I equivocate on this as much as I equivocate on just about everything else, so I’m never absolutely convinced of it.
So, in the meantime, I will probably continue thinking about it and wonder worry quietly freak out over any possible ramifications, which makes quite a great deal of sense, seeing that Flirty M hasn’t even set me up with anyone yet. That’s really putting the cart before the horse and I have always excelled at that type of insanity.
But yeah. I think I may not shut him down this time.
*Screen capping the fuck-all out of “Journey’s End” for the next episode of Sarah! Jane! Smith! – Fashionista Fever may seem a waste of time, since our heroine wore the same outfit in that and “The Stolen Earth.” But I’m a completest and if I’m going to snark about “Journey’s End,” I want to have the appropriate screen caps to go along with it. But of course, there won’t be any snark taking place, since the 21st century enterprising Earth girl has been satorial perfection defined.
**To be fair to the IT group at work, I’m sure not all of them are guilty of the bad behavior that borders on a kink for infantilism, nor are they all single and still living at home. Probably most of them are one or two or all three of the above, but not all. What are the odds of that? Really?

I think you are still single because the world and its residents are unworthy of your greatness, Mickey!
Also, are any of the members of the factory IT crowd as funny as Moss and Roy? Perhaps you should befriend them, if only for the zany adventures that might result. You could be their Jen! :)
No, unfortunately, I have yet to run into a fracktory version of Moss or Roy…or even Jen, for that matter. And please, you flatter me overly, regarding my greatness, although BG1 says the same exact thing. :-)
