In list form:

1. I’ve been reminded of how awesome Rasputina is and am currently obsessed with their album, How We Quit The Forest. Thanks go out to Weth and @zeichner, who both have recently put the band back on my radar.

2. I am still awaiting my shipment of The Blue Tooth from Big Finish Productions. It’s been three weeks and even coming from the UK, that seems a bit too long a time to wait. I’ve contacted BFP and am assured I should have it by Wednesday. Maybe I’ll open it and it will be autographed by you-know-who as an apology for the delay!? That would be simply lovely!

3. I’ve just learned BFP will release an episode of The Companion Chronicles starring Mary Tamm. I will be purchasing it as soon as it’s released. It’s doubtful the lovely Ms. Tamm will have penned a book about website layout to be shipped as a bonus for buying the CD.

Note to Mary: I still love you, you know. And really, what I said about buying The Key To Time? I meant it. I really did.

4. I’ve got a slew of new pictures to upload to my various (heart) categories. I know everyone’s very thrilled about that. It’s okay, you don’t have to tell me, because I’m thrilled about it, too.

5. I’ve just found The Official Honor Blackman website. She’s so fabulous, I can’t even tell you. However, I don’t know if charging £18 per autographed picture is exactly going to help move a lot of product. I’m glad I got my autographed photo for free, not to mention that playbill from a couple of years ago, though that wasn’t exactly autographed. And the wonderful story about how I got to stand this close to Her Fabulousness at the stage door after seeing her perform in Cabaret.

6. With all the Fake Sarahs running around my head lately, at this rate, I will have to move to Utah and convert to Mormonism.

7. The stack of books next to my bed at the moment easily tops two feet in height, and I just picked up another three today.

8. Revisiting “Spearhead from Space” on my iPod has been a delightful way to spend a few lunch hours as I work on my tan at the fracktory. Also, as I’ve recently observed, it seems I missed quite a few great lines the first time I watched it, as well as priceless screencapping opportunities. And I’ve just read the following, which makes me want to rewatch the two episodes mentioned:

The Autons would return in Terror of the Autons (1971) and Rose (2005) (each of which is the first story for a new companion, namely, Jo Grant and Rose Tyler, respectively, while Spearhead From Space was Liz Shaw’s first story). They also have a cameo in a specially-shot flashback scene in the 2006 episode Love & Monsters (which briefly revisits the events of Rose). The latter two stories contain scenes that deliberately echo the shop window dummy scenes in this story.

9. The software on my iPod is up-to-date, but I am unable to sync any of the video podcasts featuring different locations round London to it. It’s very disappointing, but I’m sure I’ve just missed a setting somewhere. I think.

10. I will be in Make Me Ill-inois in exactly three weeks, spending time with the sister and el cuñado and most importantly, Star and Bar.

Electric typewriters for the win!I am quite pleased ecstatic to report I have finally been offered that job that’s been just a rumor for a few months now. Remember back in May when I had the perfunctory interview with The New Company? I just learned my paperwork, as well as that of one of my co-workers was pushed through with lightning speed because Teh Y wanted to make sure we were hired immediately because she thinks of us as the most critical members of the team. I have never had to fill out so much paperwork in my life for a job and if the hiring package that was left on my doorstep Friday is any indication, that paperwork’s not going to end for a while.

A rise in pay per annum! With direct deposit! Bi-weekly!

Proper health and vision and dental insurance! After the first thirty days of employment!

A retirement plan! After the first thirty days of employment!

Some sort of bonus structure!

Ten days of paid vacation!

I’m taking my ten days up front, because as the sister remarked today, “Nice to accept the job, Mickey Glitter then go on vacation immediately after your very first week of employment. At least you’re setting the precedent that you are A Vacation Girl!” Of course, I don’t think I’ll get paid for those two weeks I’ll be gone in July. In fact, I’d be surprised if I could sort of, you know, take the vacation up front and get paid for it and then be in vacation deficit for the next twelve months…

This job offer could not come at a better time, either, as I am almost bled dry where my finances are concerned. I’ve had to consolidate various savings accounts into one, since I couldn’t keep the minimum balances in any of them and now the one savings account I do have left is alarmingly low, like lower than it’s been, I think, since forever. Or at least since I started working.

No more COBRA payments, which is already an extra two and change in my pocket every month, which I could put to very good use. I can’t express how pleased I’ll be to finally cut ties with my previous employer and no longer have to send them money every month for the COBRA insurance and instead, revisit how much money I give me mum every month as repayment for my car and also start saving for my next trip abroad and also be able to send Bar Code a bit of money for her college account. I sent Star a wee bit of pocket change when she turned two for her college fund, but when Bar turned two I wasn’t able to do the same. Believe me, that’s weighed heavily upon me since February and I’m thrilled to have the chance to rectify it.

So. Another new chapter in the life of Mickey Glitter, to add to a year of new chapters, played out against a background supplied by an employer who has offices all around the globe, which is worth noting because of relocation opportunities, when the time comes.

Don’t Answer Me

20 Jun 09

Don’t you just love these old videos? Seriously.

If you believe in the power magic,
I can change your mind
And if you need to believe in someone,
Turn and look behind
When we were living in a dream world,
Clouds got in the way
We gave it up in a moment of madness
And threw it all away

Don’t answer me, don’t break the silence
Don’t let me win
Don’t answer me, stay on your island
Don’t let me in

Run away and hide from everyone
Can you change the things we’ve said and done?

If you believe in the power of magic,
It’s all a fantasy
So if you need to believe in someone,
Just pretend it’s me
It ain’t enough that we meet as strangers
I can’t set you free
So will you turn your back forever on what you mean to me?

Don’t answer me, don’t break the silence
Don’t let me win
Don’t answer me, stay on your island
Don’t let me in

Run away and hide from everyone
Can you change the things we’ve said and done?

Irina Asanova was still for a moment, the way he’d seen her when he first came to the studio, lost in a world of self-confidence or self-absorption that was a world unto itself. -Martin Cruz Smith, Gorky Park
