Sunday night recap

28 Jun 09

1. Walking in 90°+ heat is great for a tan, but it’s hell keeping a bottle of water cool. Also, the sweat one’s left swimming in is disgusting. But the tan! Think of the tan!

2. Terminator: The Sarah Jane Smith Connor Chronicles has great potential, even if the dialogue is a bit dodgy and stilted. And even though you’d have to be Helen Keller or Mary Ingalls not to see where that whole scene in the bank was really going. Now waiting for Shirley Manson to appear, so mouth breathing can be engaged.

3. Sarah Jane Smith: Fashionista Fever! part 4 1/2 -b has officially been started. Completion is hoped to be achieved whilst on vacation, or at least the completion of the rough draft.

4. The whole DIY Liz Shaw fangirl t-shirt project crashed and burned earlier tonight, so it’s back to the drawing board. I’m wondering if there’s such a thing as a one-off t-shirt making website. If there is, they are so getting some business thrown their way.

5. More about the Cambridge physicist: the Magic Hair bit that’s been kicking around for months now is going to be revamped and include the wigs and the belovéd Liz Shawbun™.

6. The last serial in Sapphire and Steel . Trapped in a café? Forever? With each other? Plus, a word that covers the entire run of the program: wigs. Or at least Sapphire’s hair seemed wig-like, in the Liz Shaw* sense of the word. You know, her hair was so bad, there’s no way wigs were not involved.

7. Dreams about arguing with a good friend suck and what sucks even more is a dream about someone else coming to kill you. And especially if you’re so convinced of it in the dream that you wake up and are scared to go back to sleep. Note: these were not the same people.

    1. Hurray for tanned exercising Mick!

    2. Shirley Manson doesn’t show up until Season 2… but what, Lena’s not enough for you? Oh, Lena, Lena, Lena…

    3. Hurray for SJS Fashionista Fever!

    4. I think there are lots of sites that’ll do one-off shirts for you. I know Cafepress does! They do good work — I like my SC shirts. :)

    5. Hurray for the Shawbun!

    6. I wouldn’t mind being trapped in a cafe forever with Joanna Lumley… well, assuming that we’re talking about 1980s Lum and that time was halted in said cafe so neither of us aged.

    7. Your subconscious doesn’t think I want to kill you, does it? Wouldn’t be the first time… o_o

      Weth!

      1. The tan looks killer with my glitter lotion, too, though I’m trying not to wear so much of it to work.

      2. I’m wishing Lena Headey looked more like Linda Hamilton. I guess I’m just a classicist in that way… :-)

      3. I’ve already converted all the images to jpgs for you!

      4. Cafe Press…I need to look into that, though there’s no way I’ll get the shirt now before I leave, or at least it’s doubtful.

      5. The Shawbun! I’ve given up and leave buns of such awesomeness to the professionals.

      6. Is it you who’s referred to La Lum as a tranny? (Note to Joanna: I still adore you, like I adore Mary Tamm despite her website.)

      7. No, it most definitely wasn’t you who wanted to kill me, though I was arguing with you in that first dream. Weird!

  • Wes says:

    2. I will take gorgeousness over classicism any day. ;)

    3. Hurray for jpegth! Well, png *would* be ideal in an ideal world, but jpegs reduce file size/load time and with most tv/movie screencaps the image isn’t super high quality anyway unless we’re talking Blu-ray stuff.

But then in an ideal world I suppose jpegs would offer 90+% compression with no loss in image quality, so perhaps it would still be my preferred format for this sort of article. ;)

    4. Yeah, I can’t remember how long it takes them to do stuff, but I’d think it wouldn’t get to you in time. Someone ordered a Scary-Crayon magnet and got it within a few days, though, so one never knows!

    6. I don’t recall ever saying that! At least not of 1980s Lum… I thought she was lovely in Sapphire and Steel. I did call her handsome, though.

    7. Oh, no! What were we arguing about? Know that in rl I’d probably gladly concede the point to you… unless of course we were arguing about Donna Noble. ;)

      2. Linda Hamilton wasn’t so bad in T2, although my memory could be blurred by the countless years that have passed since I watched it (that’s up next after TSCC). But she and Lena Headey share initials! I just realized that tonight.

      3. You know much more about the image file formats than I do. I figure as long as they show up, they’re fine. Sort of like north is always whatever direction I am facing or headed…seriously. It’s a total disconnect in my head.

      4. I was thinking the same thing – but first I need to check out the cost. Seeing that during my two-week junket to see my girls in girls, I won’t be getting paid and will have a mortgage payment AND association fees due almost immediately upon my return, my fangirl activities may have to wait.

      6. I could have sworn it was you who referred to La Lum as a tranny, but perhaps it was Paul of irrelephant fame. I shall have to inquire. But I concur. She was quite delightful in S&S, even though she looked quite a bit older than she really was. And was much more attractive when she smiled with her mouth closed.

      7. Whatever were we arguing about? I don’t recall, but I’m fairly certain it was not Donna. Did you know she may attain honorary Sarah status? That’s not quite Fake Sarah status, but pretty damn close… :-)

      • Wes says:

        2. No, Linda Hamilton wasn’t bad, but she’s certainly no Lena Headey. And yes, they share initials! And yet those two letters are so much hotter in the latter case… I mean really. L.H. Mmmm.

        3. I imagine it won’t make a difference when we’re all on blazing-fast T3000 connections, but I started making webpages on a 14.4 connection and still vividly remember waiting minutes for pages to load… so yeah. It’s one of the reasons I like the lightbox-style plugins so much — I can use the smaller images on the page layout so everything loads quickly, and then if people want to check out the larger and more detailed (and slower-loading) images, they actively click the links to view them. But if they’re fine with the smaller versions, they just keep reading without having to wait!

But I realize that connections are faster these days, so I try to keep the size of images displayed on a page around 800kb or less. There was a time, however, when I kept that rule at 150kb. :)

        6. Definitely wasn’t me — I thought she was lovely in S&S and have the frame-by-frame screencap gallery to prove it. ;)

        7. I think you need to share what you’re Sarah-smoking with me if you’re even considering putting the Donna Manse on any Sarah-related list! I’ll admit that there are times when I’ve thought about biting Catherine Tate… but I wouldn’t put her on any kind of list unless it was of the DO NOT BITE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BECAUSE YOU KNOW BETTER variety. At least I was curious about Chrissie’s body… I am not at all curious about CT’s. I am fairly certain what it is like and I do not want to see it.

Casshern vs Gatchaman is another argument I imagine we might have. ;)
