Poor Liz. To the best of my knowledge, she’s the only companion who never got to travel in the Doctor’s TARDIS. Pity. She would have been tremendous standing at the console, giving the Doctor her charming backtalk. Then he would have barked her name and she would have capitulated and scurried away, probably rolling her eyes. And muttering.

God, she was great.

While I always loved the Jo Grant character, I think it’s a shame that Liz didn’t last another season. But how she would have fit into the deliberately more lightweight Season 8 is anyone’s guess. ( Plus Caroline John was pregnant at the time which would have limited her time on the show anyway. )

BTW the character of Grace Holloway from the Paul McGann TV movie didn’t travel in the Tardis either, but there’s always been some debate over whether she was a bona fide companion. ( For my money, she was. )

Once I achieved fangirl status for Liz, I was terribly sorry she left so quickly. But you’re right; the pregnancy would have limited her time considerably. I wonder how Season 8 would have differed, had Caroline John stayed!

Jo is pretty awesome; I’ve been rewatching a lot of her stories recently and of Three’s companions, I think they had the sweetest relationship, if not the best of the three.

I’ve never seen the movie – I tried once, but there was something about it that rubbed me the wrong way. Perhaps it’s time to try again! =)
