As my da would have said…

Actually, two things my da would have said:

1. I’m feeling very do-less today. I have done nothing but sit on the couch and watch or doze off to Doctor Who since early this morning. This may be a side effect of yesterday/Friday night, when I woke up just past midnight and had no earthly idea what time it was, turned off my coffee maker because I thought it was close to six, and then spent the next thirty minutes being sick. Yesterday I barely got out to run some errands because only because I had to and then home again, only to be in bed and asleep sometime between 5 and 6pm. I woke up at 3:30am and have been awake ever since. Except when I’ve been dozing, but still.

2. Very much like my da and football:

Mickey Glitter: Da, who’s playing in this game?
My da: It doesn’t matter to me, Mickey Glitter, it’s football. That’s all I care about.

I am similar in my Doctor Who viewing. It’s Doctor Who. That’s all that really matters in the long run. If there’s a sassy, booted companion in the mix, that’s just so much icing on the cake.

I’m going to test this now to see if it really does hold true and try some Sylvester McCoy.

Ha! I wouldn’t have McCoy on as background noise, though — you need to be paying attention to fully appreciate the weirdness of those serials (not to mention the awesomeness of Ace)! :)

I started “Silver Nemesis” last night and am, per the usual, sort of falling under Ace’s spell. And I guess I do like McCoy’s Doctor, but Three’s still my all-time favorite.

Will you arrange for therapy if I ever, ever, ever mention falling under Tegan’s spell, even if it is just a smidge? LOL

  3. Wes says:

Yes, Ace rules! And McCoy’s Doctor isn’t bad either. I don’t think there’s anything exceedingly special about him, but there’s nothing really grating about him either — which puts him above Tennant and even T. Baker (and far above C. Baker) in my book.

I don’t think there’s any danger of you falling under Tegan’s spell… but then again, you did find yourself caught up within Donna’s massive shadow. In any case, I’ll definitely stage an intervention if you ever find yourself appreciating Tegan!

  4. mickelodeon says:

Wait…what did you find grating about Tom Baker? Do tell. I don’t think we’ve ever discussed this…!

Now come on. You know, I thought about you this morning when I started hearing on the news about the Kick a Ginger Day. Did you get any news coverage about it? I don’t recall if it was a local thing or not.

  5. Wes says:

We haven’t? I’m almost sure we have! It’s mostly just T. Baker’s general apathy and the Chester grinning at inappropriate moments. I mean, when Jo left, Pertwee slipped off to have a good cry in Bessie, yet Baker was grinning like a pedophile in a Build-A-Bear Workshop after Leela and K-9 v1 ditched him to stay on Gallifrey. (Yeah, he had a new K-9, but still!) Same deal when people died — he just didn’t seem to care. This is also my main problem with Eccleston.

And no, I hadn’t heard anything about this Kick A Ginger Day! Perhaps in your case it should have been Bite a Ginger Day, eh? ;)

  6. mickelodeon says:

Perhaps we have, then. Now that I’ve read your comment, I do vaguely recall some discussion about his callous attitude when he dumped ourn Eth Jay in Aberdeen, namely the “Pfffft” he noised as she left. I’m with you, though, about the weird Peter File grinning. That’s basically what’s gotten on my nerves the most as I’ve started rewatching his era.

Give me Pertwee (or Troughton) or give me death! LOL

Speaking of gingers, I forget sometimes about Bonnie Langford being even more ginger than Caroline John ever was, wig or no. She’s got a website with a photo gallery; there are some great pictures. She was kind of cute, in her own, perky way.
