Because Vicki and every other companion who came after Susan weren’t her.
Not that they were bad, but they. Were. Not. Susan.

Welcome to hop aboard my TARDIS any time.
I’m slowly turning to the Susan-side, though I still think she’s got that mad-as-a-hatter look in her first scene, when she’s listening to the radio in Barbara’s class.
Oh, Susan. Susan, Susan, Susan. She cannot cook, but she can eat! Very useful, that one. ;)
You know, I was just thinking — if Nyssa had been Pertwee’s first companion, she would’ve been Not-Zoe. :)
OOH, you’re right. Well, thank God then, that the next companion after Zoe was Liz, who was easily as smart as our favorite glitter-catsuit wearing brainiac. Can you even imagine if Jo was Pertwee’s first companion? =)
The first female companion I knew was Vicky, who seemed to be constantly on the verge of screaming about one thing or another. Well, she was from Victorian-era London, so she probably had a very sheltered upbringing.
Are you thinking about Victoria? With the Second Doctor? She was definitely a screaming Mimi, but Vicki (who traveled with the First Doctor, Ian, anb Barbara) was a bit less of one and from what I’ve seen, had a rather good head on her shoulders. I love them both, though. I’m a sucker for tv characters named Vicki or Victoria who are Victorian, from the future, or governesses to strange little boys in remote Maine fishing towns. =)
I meant Victoria, who travelled with Two and Jamie. Incidentally, if you drag up Google Maps for Melbourne Australia you will find that my place of birth is in the state of Victoria. Which makes me a Victorian, although it’s nearly all worn off after twenty years in Perth.
Are there a lot of differences between the two?
The short answer is: yes.
I’ll post a longer answer at my blog soon.
I’ll look forward to it, then!!
