Companion Adoration!
Companion Adoration!

Don’t pay any attention to the numbering system in the strange cousin susan universe. Post no. 51 came before this one and after no. 49. It’s part of scs’s charm and also one of the reasons I’m no longer numbering entries on recurring series such as this. It wasn’t this specific post that’s caused me to drop the numbering. I’m just lazy, really.

WTF?

WTF?

Dear Lalla, I know it’s taken me longer than probably anticipated to realize how extremely awesome you were during your time on Doctor Who and I still think you’re extremely awesome.

Yes, even after I saw this picture.

This…this simply defies everything I know. And even some things I don’t know.

To wit, a few of the things I know:

  1. You are awesome.
  2. You were more than a match for Tom Baker on-screen.
  3. You were probably more than a match for him off-screen, as well.
  4. Your Romana (and Mary Tamm’s Romana, too, come to think of it) was totally cooler than the Doctor.
  5. I dig those nautical outfits you wore.
  6. I’ll probably rewatch all your serials as soon as I get over the true Age of Aquarius Companions.

And a few of the things I don’t know:

  1. The reason why Ian Chesterton always wore a suit and tie.
  2. What Barbara Wright hid in that hair helmet (though there has been discussion these two points are somewhat related).
  3. Escapology and where Jo learned it. Also, the why of the whole thing. It’s an odd thing, isn’t it?
  4. The radically changing hair length sported by Caroline John in “Doctor Who and the Silurians.”
  5. The name of the responsible party for deciding Caroline John should don what I totally believe was a wig (and a bad one, at that) in her last two serials.
  6. Why it took me so long to comprehend your awesomeness.
  7. What you were thinking with this hair style? Girl, believe me, I understand awkward hair styles. Oh, I certainly do. But this? This makes those wigs look like the Caroline John hair from her first two serials. You know what I mean? Yeah, this hair style makes her wigs look freakin’ good.

I’m just sayin’, is all, Lalla. You’re still tremendous and will be included in the strange cousin susan Tremendous Companion Rotation. I just need to find a little time to make it so.

I remain,
Yours most faithfully–
Mickey Glitter

Plus an appearance in The Tomb of the Cybermen from 1967. I have no screen caps of Shaps’ turn as John Viner and will have to remedy that before too long. I love those Cybermen!
