Tag: the brigadier
My mum and I watched Inferno not too long ago and although I’d only planned to watch half that week and finish it up the following week (it is seven episodes long, after all), the old girl abso-fucking-lutley wouldn’t hear of it. She is so hooked on the Doctor, it’s not even funny. And I mean that very sincerely.
Anyway, at the end of the serial, when the Brig and the Doctor are having their verbal scuffle and poor Liz just looks on, there’s a great split second of a Total Liz Look of Disbelief. I’d forgotten about it until the scene was over and then I grabbed the remote and backed up the disc to just before she got The Look on her face, pointed to the television, and told my poor old mum to watch Liz’s face as the Brigadier and the Doctor were, well, being the Brigadier and the Doctor.
She totally saw it and was quite charmed, then said she would have missed it, had I not pointed it out.
Mum is still quite young in the ways of companion adoration.
And also, for those of you who are as fascinated by the sartorial angle as I am, that outfit ourn Liz is wearing? IT’S NOT PURPLE AND MAGENTA, OR EVEN BLUE AND MAGENTA.
It’s red and it’s not a scarf; it’s some sort of accent color that’s part of the dress itself. Oh, and the shoes she’s got on (that you can’t see in this shot…you really should thank me for that)? Possibly the worst she’d worn. Even the pumps from Spearhead from Space were better, and that’s really saying quite a bit.
From now on, you’ll be known as the Brigadore and not the Brigadier, just not in the tags or the writing excerpts. Honestly, I’ll just call you the Brigadore when it suits my purposes. Which is pretty much always. Except when it doesn’t.
Along with the Brigadore audio file there are two more I grabbed from the commentary to Spearhead from Space earlier today. I’ve linked them here, but they’re also on the Miscellaneous Liz Shaw page.
Kids must have worried, getting in the bath.
And quite gratifying that he used Liz Shaw, even though she was quite scathing.
…starring me mum, me Auntie Judi, Caroline John (present-day as herself and ca. 1970 as Liz Shaw), and Nicholas Courtney (ca. 1970 as the Brigadier). Co-starring catty comments, a bottle of booze, the orange mini-skirt outfit from “Doctor Who and the Silurians,” a blue dress, and a set straight out of “The Claws of Axos.”
I should have written this one down when I woke up the other morning; the only thing I remember clearly is me mum saying something about Caroline John drinking “the hard shit,” though I don’t recall any drunkeness in my dream. However, she was wearing that lovely orange mini-skirt ensemble when my mother commented about her and the booze.
And then everything changed and I was watching the Brigadier and Liz run around some crazy Axon-like cave, climbing up ladders and exasperating each other, like they always did. There was more to this bit, but I can’t recall anything else.
Yeah, it was a little weird, the whole Axon tie-in.
